Becouse of numberous touristattractions in Changwat Krabi, airport users have been increasing every year. The Cabinet, at its Project as the Commitee of Economic Ministers noted that there were increased number og passengers using Krabi airport annually. This was, partly, because Changwat Krabi promoted and developed tourism.

According to the statistics of Tourism Authority of Thailand, it was noted that most of the tourist come to Changwat Krabi by car. As to air travel, there was a limit of Krabi Airport. which could not accomodate 400-seated aircraft( Boeing 747-400) so the tourist travelling by Boeing 747-400 from abbroad had to disembark at Bangkok International Airport or other domestic airport that could accomodate 400- seated aircraft (Boeing 747-400) then continued the trip to Changwat Krabi by car.

Thus, the Ministry of Transport was assigned to developed Krabi Airport through the Development of Civil Aviation which had launched Krabi Airport Development Plan and constructed it during the fiscal years 2003-2004 at the cost of 743,000,000 THB

Status

Krabi airport is a governmental body under the Development of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Transport with an Airport Director as cheif executive Officer.

"The airport is situated at 133 Moo 5 thambon Nua klong, Amphoe Nauklong,Changwat Krabi, 13 kilometers to the east of downtown"

Its responsibility is to see Whether the air transportation within its jurisdiction is operated in compliance with laws rules and regulation as well as international agreements and conventions. The facilitation and safety aspects for airport users are also taken in to account.
